Allerton by Fire

One of the big things I wanted to do on our trip was attend a luau however COVID messed up that plan. Many of the luaus were closed and the few that were open had very limited capacity. I stumbled upon an event called Allerton by Fire which advertised fire dancers and a meal so we gave it a try. It was much cooler than we had expected.

History of the Allerton garden can be found here. https://ntbg.org/gardens/allerton/allerton-garden-history/ The short story is that Robert Allerton, who was from a very rich Chicago family, purchased the land in 1938 and along with a landscape architect who he adopted named John Gregg created the botanical garden. The garden eventually went into a trust following Allerton and Greggs death. The trust stated that only 30,000 people a year could visit the garden and all tours must be guided tours. So as a part of our Allerton by Fire event we got a fabulous tour of this amazing garden.

The garden has a river that runs through it and spills in the ocean. The modest house sits not far from the beach but was very neat. There is also a guest house in which Jackie Kennedy stayed. We saw some trees that were in Jurassic Park and well as other movie sites. Being plant lovers we really enjoyed all the unusual vegetation!
