Birds of Kauai

So when I think of tropical locations I picture beautiful toucan type birds everywhere. Uh…not on Kauai. The majority of the birds we saw were species that had been introduced from other places however I did see some beauties that I personally hadn’t seen before.
I love cardinals so I was drawn to the red-crested cardinals. Beautiful and a new bird I hadn’t seen before.

The cattle egrets could be seen in many areas of the island. They are also an introduced species.

I stumbled on a water bird sanctuary and saw these native Black Necked Stilts and Black Crowned Night Heron hiding from the heat in a tree.

The common myna bird could be seen EVERYWHERE.

The Nene’s were once near extinction but have rebounded.

We visited Kilauea Lighthouse and saw SO many coastal birds. More to come on these.

We visited the Smith Family Garden and there were peacocks roaming around. I was obsessed as you can tell by the numerous pictures!
